Geological behavior refers to the way Earth’s materials—such as rocks, minerals, soils, and fluids—respond to natural forces and processes over time. It encompasses the physical, chemical, and mechanical reactions of the lithosphere when subjected to stress, temperature changes, tectonic movements, erosion, and weathering. For example, rocks may deform elastically, plastically, or fracture under tectonic stress, while minerals may undergo metamorphism under heat and pressure. Geological behaviour also includes the movement of groundwater, the flow of magma, sediment transport by rivers and glaciers, and the slow but powerful shifts of tectonic plates that shape mountains, basins, and faults. Understanding these behaviors is crucial for predicting natural hazards such as earthquakes, landslides, and volcanic eruptions, as well as for resource exploration, engineering projects, and environmental management. In essence, geological behaviour represents the dynamic interaction between Earth’s internal forces and surface processes that continually reshape our planet.

Aims & Scope

Geological Behaviour is an international, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing knowledge of the dynamic processes that shape the Earth and govern the behaviour of its materials. The journal aims to publish high-quality research articles, reviews, and case studies that address the physical, chemical, and mechanical responses of rocks, minerals, soils, and fluids under varying geological conditions.

Scope of the Journal

  • Tectonics, rock deformation, and structural geology
  • Geomechanics, rock and soil behaviour, and rheology
  • Volcanic, seismic, and landslide processes
  • Sediment transport, erosion, and surface processes
  • Hydrogeology, fluid migration, and geochemical interactions
  • Metamorphism, magmatism, and crustal evolution
  • Applied aspects of geological behaviour in engineering, natural resource exploration, geohazards, and environmental management

The journal welcomes interdisciplinary studies that integrate field observations, laboratory experiments, and numerical modelling to provide insights into Earth’s dynamic systems. By fostering dialogue between geoscientists, engineers, and environmental researchers, Geological Behaviour serves as a platform for advancing both fundamental understanding and practical applications of Earth processes.
